100 miles going nowhere…

August 26th, 2006

Do you know this feeling you get when you’re moving and moving and moving, and yet you don’t seem to be moving at all. You keep going and going, but you’re really going nowhere. Well, if you’re American, you probably know that feeling. We certainly got to know it yesterday, because when we got out of the car yesterday evening, we had driven almost a hundred miles, even though our new motel was only a rough 3 miles away from our old one.

Now, you might ask yourself where we went yesterday? The answer is: Nowhere. We just drove up and down a 16 mile strip, searching for a motel/swimsuit/restaurant/minigolf/groceries. Up and down and up and down and up and down…

Oh well, of course that’s not all we did yesterday. We arrived at the Outerbanks, N.C. thursday evening after checking out Washington D.C.

The Outerbanks are a hotspot for ric people looking for some distraction from politics or the stockmarket. We we’re lucky enough to find an affordable motel right across the street from the beach with a “public beach access point” just around the corner. It’s a beautiful beach and the water, eventhough it’s not really influenced by the gulfstream anymore, is nice and kind-of-warmish.

So we checked out the beach yesterday, me trying to balance brunch, coffee and smoothie at the same time (you can see the picture’s in the article before this one). We soon figured out that there was no place to sit at the beach without a towel or something similar, so we ended up looking for a place to eat along the street, which we didn’t find, so we ate in the car. After spending another 2 hours searching for a motel we finally got to go to the beach and enjoy the refreshing water. Afterwords we went to a nice restaurant to enjoy some shrimp, crabcakes, and finally some free refills. We didn’t quite finish our food, mostly because they placed a 12lb brown sugar-cinnamon filled sweet potato on my plate. I ate about a quarter of it before deciding it was time to go.

We spent another half an hour looking for a minigolf, but everyone on the Outerbanks seemed to have had the same idea just a couple of minutes before us, because they were as full as minigolf can be.

So we just grabbed a beer and our guitars and went to the beach, were we played a couple of lonely tunes to the waves. They were quite a nice audience actually, but they kept clapping and making noise inbetween the songs, so I guess they didn’t really understand oour music.

OK, that’s all for now, this afternoon we are going down to myrtle beach, see ya again some other time,

Adrian
